Acu-Rite smartHUB / Bridge reader: Latest build of my My AcuRite smartHUB app is 2019.03.04.2300 and has been posted on 03/06/2019. Keep using your smartHUB and my software despite Acu-Rite shutdown!

The latest update to my My AcuRite smartHUB bridge reader app

If you're new here, see my earlier post that describes this application in detail.

Latest build is 2019.03.04.2300 and includes the following changes:
  • Allows continued use of Acu-Rite smartHUB despite permanent shutdown by Acu-Rite. Modified code to no longer require "Acu-Rite time" since this device has been shut down by Acu-Rite.
Latest build is 2018.06.05.2122 and includes the following changes:
  • Fixed the ERROR 400 problem. Also, data now transmitted via a secure URL (https).
Latest build is 2016.12.17.1447 and includes the following changes:
  • Fixed the problem with negative temperatures being reported as positive temperatures.
Latest build is 2016.10.13.0004 and includes the following changes:
  • Additional fix for Settings form sometimes not closing after clicking the Save button.
  • Fix for rare problem where the app writes numerous entries to Debug_Log.txt due to not being able to acquire time from AcuRite device.
Latest version is 2016.10.09.1231 and includes the following changes:
  • Rain in the last 24 hours and rain in the last hour values finally work properly. Acu-Rite resets these values at midnight and every hour on the hour, but some of the weather networks want the rain in the past hour ongoing and rain in the past 24 hours ongoing values. The day in the past day value is still included as well. NOTE: Be sure that you have the correct location of your weather station specified on Acu-Rite's website.
  • Removed the "You're using the old firmware" check. Some false positives were reported and I figured that this logic wasn't really necessary after all.
  • When you first start the app, it will tell you what data it's waiting to acquire before it begins posting to the weather networks. This should take less than a minute.
  • NOTE: The three DLL files included in the ZIP have been updated - be sure to replace your existing DLLs with the new ones.
  • Fixed issues with WindData.xml and RainData.xml
Latest version is 2016.09.27.2112 and includes the following changes:
  • (Hopefully) fixed the rare, but reported, bug where the app sometimes crashes when clicking the "Save" button on the Settings form. I have not been able to personally reproduce this bug, but I was able to narrow down the cause to the code that refreshes the main screen when one saves and exits the Settings form.
  • Additional improvements to error handling and reporting.
  • New/experimental: The ability to post temperature and humidity data directly to a Vera / Mios / Micasaverde / OpenHAB home automation controller. If this proves to be a popular feature, I will expands the options here.
Latest version is 2016.09.25.0229 and includes the following changes:
  • Brought back the "p" value for CWOP. This reports the cumulative rain for the past 24 hours.
  • Improved error handling and reporting.
  • Insignificant network errors will no longer be reported in the "Errors" value near the bottom of the screen. This value only increments when my app encounters trouble posting your weather data to one of the weather networks. NOTE: It is normal to see around 0 - 10 or so errors here in a 24 hour period. The weather networks don't have 100% uptime.
--------------Latest version is 2016.09.19.2137 and includes the following changes:
  • Waits for WinPcap to come online (service name is npf.sys). Sometimes WinPcap takes some time to start when a PC is first booted up. Previously, the weather app would report an error regaring WinPcap if WinPcap wasn't already running. With this fix, the app will keep waiting and trying until WinPcap starts. Also, should WinPcap shut down on its own, the weather app will keep trying to resume until WinPcap starts up again.
  • Fix for not properly identifying sensor IDs when filtering by sensor ID is specified. Acu-Rite decided to append leading zeroes to the sensor IDs with the latest firmware update. My app will now allow you to specify sensor IDs the old way (without the leading zeros) or new way (with the leading zeros) and filer on the correct sensor ID regardless.
  • Fix for random crash when clicking the Save button in the Settings screen while the app is processing data in the background.
  • Settings form can now be accessed via a single click. I got rid of the "Edit" menu since "Settings" was the only submenu item on it.
  • FUTURE ENHANCEMENT COMING SOON: Move the settings file to the same directory as the application - this way you won't have to keep reentering your settings when you upgrade.
--------------Latest version is 2016.09.10.0203 and includes the following changes:
  • Exclusively supports the new My AcuRite smartHUB / Acu-Link with the latest My AcuRite smartHUB firmware
  • CWOP / APRS users can now enter a custom comment to be included in their weather data transmission
  • Vastly enhanced Debug Mode to aid in troubleshooting
  • Fix for Settings not saving
--------------
Latest version is 2015.11.9.1951  and includes the following new features/fixes:
  • Much improved error handling of corrupted WindData and RainData files. The app will now automatically delete and recreate these files when they are corrupted - no more endless error messages popping up.
  • Adjustable time delay for posting to CWOP
  • CWOP now posts data via port 14580 for better performance
  • Added the ability to post to CWOP via ARPS ham (amateur) radio network
  • Main screen contains an error counter to keep track of posting errors. NOTE: Do not be concerned with this value unless it's really high - sometimes one or more weather servers are simply unavailable or bogged down for a moment or two.
Fixes and enhancements from previous versions:
  • Fix for temperatures between -1 and -9 being incorrectly formatted for CWOP
  • Fix for Wind Speed Offset
  • Fix for CWOP rain data reporting incorrectly
  • Fix for CWOP rain data not reporting
  • Truly fixed the memory leak issue. Removed auto-restart option since it's no longer needed.
  • App now minimizes to the system tray
  • Support for posting to OpenWeatherMap
  • Ability to specify offset value for soil/water temperature
  • Have an extra sensor and want to monitor your pool, attic, garage, barn, or other location's temperature and humidity? You can now specify that a senor report it's temperature data as "Soil Temp" and humidity as "Soil Moisture".  To see these values on Weather Underground, drill down to the screen for your individual station (not the forecast screen).  NOTE: Set "Global Filter on Sensor" values to blank when using this option.
  • (Hopefully) fix for rainfall data when more than one sensor is used. Please report if you still find a problem, however.
  • Added Temperature Offset option to allow compensation for inaccurate thermometer readings.  Set this value to 0 if no adjustment is necessary.
  • Added Wind Offset option to allow compensation for inaccurate wind speed readings. This is a percentage value. Set to 100% if no adjustment is necessary, 50% to slow down reading, 200% to speed up, etc.
  • Have more than one sensor?  Now you can post specific data from multiple sensors to the weather sites. For example: Post the temperature from a tower sensor in the shade while posting wind, rain, and humidity data from a 5-in-1 sensor.
  • Customize the path and filename of the CSV output file
  • Bug fix for globally filtering on sensor type or sensor ID
  • (In previous update) Support for 5-in-1, 3-in-1, tower, and rain sensors

    Awesome,
I was still curious on weather you can set it to run without logging in as a user?

Also I was wondering if you could add OpenWeatherMap.org to report to?

Thanks and I hope all is well.

    Hi Mr. Kevin Key,

I seem to not be able to get the bridge to connect to the computer I would like to use. I have followed step by step but no matter how many times I try it does not work. When I connect the bridge to the computer the Ethernet lights do not turn on on the bridge and PC. The Ethernet does work because the lights do turn on when I connect to my router. However when I plug the bridge into another PC the lights do turn on and works fine. So I have no clue what is causing this not to work and hopefully you may know why.

I am using a Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit laptop and the Ethernet is the Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC (if you need more specs then let me know). I have tried the basics like troubleshooting and reinstalling the drivers but neither have worked. Hopefully that is enough information to somewhat pin-point the problem.

Anyway for now I am using one of the older versions until I can get this issue resolved. Thanks for reading this.

    Sincerely,
    Will

Kevin, thanks for your hard work and for the update with all of the cool new features!

I am wondering if anyone else is having trouble upgrading from the original aculink bridge app? I have been using Kevin's app since the beginning of the year with much success, but for some reason I can't get the new app to work.

First I closed the app, then I removed all DLL's and the .EXE from my Aculink folder, then replaced it with the new app. I've set the same Global Filter On Sensor ID, same WU login, and same network device as before.
After Launching the app, it acts like it sees my aculink bridge and reports a pressure, but signal on the sensor is blank and the rest of the data is blank.

If I go to my backup of the old Aculink app, it recognizes the sensor right away and reports to WU like normal.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,
    -Brandon

Nevermind, I just fixed it! I left the "Global Filter On Sensor ID" blank, then it started reporting just fine. It also showed the station ID I needed to enter.

The old app allowed a 3 digit Sensor ID, but the new one seems to require a 5 digit number, so I put in the two leading zeros and it worked

    Hi Dave,

Yeah, CWOP is a little tricky. The HH is for hundredths of minutes. Here are the instructions:

What is the APRS latitude/longitude position format? In an APRS weather data packet, the part between "z" and "_" is the latitude and longitude of the station position. The particular format used is from the LORAN position format and is capable of about 60 feet resolution on the findu.com maps. The format is "ddmm.hhN/dddmm.hhW" without the quotation marks, where d is degrees, m is minutes and h is hundredths of minutes. The first eight characters represent latitude (north in this case), and the last nine characters represent longitude (west in this case). The hemispheres are represented by capital letters; N, E, S, W and remove the need for plus or minus signs on the latitude and longitude. Note that LEADING ZEROS ARE REQUIRED. Also note that there must be only two numbers to the right of the decimal point in the latitude or longitude, and that colons are not allowed. Many examples of correct format positions are contained here, and here and there is a web-based DMS, LORAN, decimal conversion tool. Any lat/lon changes for the CWOP database should be in decimal degree format.

    So, for your location...
    Lat ddmm.hhN 4121.21N
    Lon dddmm.hhW 07205.28W

    Kevin,

Yesterday afternoon I had to upgrade my modem. Ever since then I have not been able to get the software to work. All it says is "Receiving info from bridge. If this takes more than 5 minutes then make sure you selected the correct device." The lights on the also do not blink (stay solid then blink for a few seconds) so that may be an issue.

However when I use the older version (one where you connect to router) it seems to work fine so I am unable to find a solution. I'm a bit confuse on why it would just stop working. I really preferred the updated software because of the more detailed wind and dew point measurements but oh well at least something I guess.

As always thanks for reading this and developing the software. Have a good day. I'm sorry for getting a bit off topic a bit.

    Hi Dave96z34,

I've figured out the problem: CWOP wants the rain data in hundredths of an inch - without any decimal point. I've modified the code so that it multiplies the rain data by 100 now. Go ahead and download the latest version: 2014.10.22.2117 and give it a shot (hopefully it will rain again soon).

Still unable to resolve why I can not get the bridge to work and it is getting really frustrating.

When I plug the bridge into any computer in my house it seems to reboot constantly but still works when I plug into my router. Do you have a clue on why it will constantly reboot when I plug into my computer? I have run out of reasons on why it will not work, unless the bridge itself is defective. I have followed the instructions step by step multiple times but no luck and unable to find help. :c

Also I have a question regarding the bridge itself. Do you know what versions the bridge should be at? I have the 09150TRX model (not sure if there are others) and my App version is 126 and boot version is 006. Apparently they are low numbers but I have no clue how to update it if there is an update for it.

Forgot to say thanks. I know it should not be that frustrating as I am making it but on the old software it seems to go out for hours at a time now. I think it may be a mix of the aculink site and my internet though. Example of these days are the 13th and 14th of this month. Anyway thanks again for your help.

As for getting the bridge to work when plugged into your computer, have you set up a bridged internet connection? If so - and the bridge still doesn't work - you may need to use a Ethernet crossover cable.

When it gets to the desktop I made a batch file to wait 1 minute so the network can load+bridge then it starts the program. I like how it automated to run with out me. Is there any way we could make that a setting in the program to add that to the registry?

    Hi Kevin (and others)

I'm confused as to why there's a network for NIC pull down. My Acu-rite 5-in-1 model number 2032c plugs directly into my windows 7 via USB. I understand the bridge device plugs into your network, but I don't have that setup.

With that said, I was able to use AcuLinkScraper20140203 with my mentioned setup with no problems other than the Pressure was always set to 0. I'm assuming this worked because your app took data from acu-link.com, massaged it and uploaded it to WU.

The new app is not able to communicate with the device that is plugged into my computer via the USB. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks

The App is not designed to work VIA USB. It is specifically designed for the Acu-Link Bridge which hooks up with ethernet/WiFi.

    Hey Phil,
Happy New Year. Make sure your running the latest version of the software which addressed some of the issues you are dealing with. I also found that assigning static IP's to both the computer LAN connection, and the Bridged connection(Acu-Link) makes a big difference, especially if one of those connections is WiFi. I use an old Dual Core Intel Windows 7 Home laptop for my Weather station.

The limitation is not in the Acu-Link Bridge. It reports about every 18 seconds. The limitation is simply how often the Acu-link website relays the information to weather Underground. Kevin's software intercepts this 18 second transmission, and relays it live to WU.

Hi Kevin, I've been using your software for about a week and it's been running pretty well. I am using the upload to Wunderground and CWOP. Seems like there may be a bug in how it sends temperatures of -1 to -9.

They are getting sent as "t0-5" instead of "t-05". CWOP decoded that as a missing value.

    http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/wxpage.cgi?call=EW6664&last=24

When temp reached -10, then the software sent the value correctly "t-10"

    Kevin,

Sorry for the really delayed response, I just got around to getting an Ethernet crossover cable. However, the cable still did not fix my issue with the constant rebooting. I made sure to follow directions step by step but nothing worked. I may try again whenever I get time. Just wanted to let you know and hopefully someone who reads this can help as I'm completely clueless. Also thanks for the help I really appreciate it.

    Thanks again,

    Will,

Can you try plugging another Ethernet device - such as another laptop, a printer, Vonage, etc. in place of the AcuLink bridge? This way we can tell whether the bridged network connection is working properly vs. a problem with the AcuLink.

It sounds like your bridged internet connection is fine, then. When you plug the AcuLink back into the bridged connection - and wait about 10 minutes or so - does the data on Acu-Link.com get updated?

Hi Kevin, Thanks for making the change to fix the -1 to -9. I installed and it worked perfectly this morning. Got it installed just before I went above zero. I figured out the answer to my previous question. (Deleted the post). The only thing I'm having an issue with is the Barometric pressure showing up incorrectly. On my bridge/acu-link it's showing 29.85. But in the Bridge reader it's showing 27.13. I did not have any pressure adjust settings selected in the setup menu. A few times on the WU trend it jumped from 27 - 30 range and then back down.

    Any ideas?

Hi Kevin, I just installed your app here and it seems to work just fine. Since I'm in Brazil, our number format in Windows is different than the one used in US, we use a comma as the decimal separator (as many other countries). This regional setting seems to "bug" the app. You can check that by changing your Control Panel -> Region -> Format tab to Portuguese (Brasil) or any other country that uses comma as decimal separator to reproduce the issue :) Thanks for your work and great app!

Got a new unit on its way with the newer color display. Also got a 3 year warranty via SquareTrade. Don't know how helpful they will be in 13 months when the station craps out again.

Iv notice a design flaw with the rain sensors on the 5-1. Most of the snow blows away or the ice evaporates. Acurite makes a independent rain sensor that works with the bridge. Was thinking about changing to that adding some typ of heating system it so the snow sticks and melts the snow as it falls. Probably end up using something like a commercial defrost line heater or a 5 watt light bulb controlled by a Freeze Protection thermostat.

    Hi Ameripest,

No need for the sensor IDs unless you have more than one sensor of the same type. To use your tower sensor for temperature and humidity - and the 5-in-1 for everything else: 1) Set "Global Filter on Sensor Type" to blank. 2) Under Multi Sensors, select Tower for Temperature and Humidity. 3) Select 5n1 for Wind and Rain. Leave all sensor IDs blank.

My onboard nic in my pc stopped working recently so i added a pcie nic to replace it.
The pc is working fine, bridge is working fine, but program wont launch.
You can see it start in task manager, but then it quits.
I have tried to disable the onboard nic in the bios to see if that would remedy the issue, but for some reason that causes issues with booting.
    Any ideas?

Kevin, would you be able to include the sensor id in the .csv file output? I have multiple sensors.

Also, would it be possible to include all the sensor data for each sensor in the file, not just what is getting uploaded?

Lastly, on the console screen, could you also show all the data for each sensor and maybe just bold the values on each line that are getting uploaded?

    Loving the program, Thanks

    Kevin,

Thank you so much for the wonderful program! I started out with the scraper app and a 5-in-1 sensor, now I am using bridge reader on my home server with the 5-in-1 for wind, rain, pressure, and UV intensity with a tower in the shade for more accurate temp and humidity readings. Thanks to your app I'm publishing some of the most reliable data in my region of FL. Donation coming your way in appreciation for your efforts!

The only oddity I've notice in using the program is that rainfall rate reported to WU often seems to differ from the reading on the color display that came with the 5-in-1. During an hour long rainfall event, the display will show a variable rainfall rate, but if you look at that same event as reported to WU, it inaccurately reflects a constant rainfall rate for the duration of the event (yesterday, for example http://i.imgur.com/ApgFcPG.png). Sometimes it also seems as though rainfall rate does not return back to 0 until 10+ minutes after the rain ends. I read that you're in CA, so I understand that rainfall rate is something you have a hard time testing; do you think it's just a problem on my end?

    Thank you!

I am using both the tower and the 5 in 1. The tower gives more accurate temperature and humidity. Weather Underground shows the tower readings in the current data but in the high for the day and graphs, it shows the data from the 5 in 1. That data is way off as the unit just wont aspirate enough during the middle of the day and I get high peaks until the sun lowers in the sky. Anyway, is there a way to force the tower data to them for the graphing and high for the day? You got me set up back in March. I just haven't tried to fix this problem.
    Thanks,

Hey I see your problem if you only want the temp and hum on the tower sensor you need too use the pull down tab for temp and humid in the settings and tell it to use the tower sensor.

But heads up that has happen to me a few times when the program is first connecting to the sensors.

Example of crazy off but only happens in the first 10 sec. When you delete the bad data unfortunately wunderground highs and lows will not change...

I've noticed several errors, too. These are errors in regards to connecting to the servers and posting data. There might be some intermittent issues with Weather Underground and/or some of the other weather sites that the app is posting data to.

I have been using your bridge reader for several months without issue until yesterday. My computer froze and I had to reboot. After rebooting, I tried to restart the bridge reader, however I get the basic Microsoft error message that the program has encountered an error an needs to close. I tried deleting and restarting the program and rebooting my computer again but that has not helped. I am using the x86 version of the software. Do you have any ideas what I could try next? I can send you the dump of the error if you like. Thanks for your help!

    Here you go...

    http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles-tutorials/windows-xp/wxpbrdge.html

if it only happens every few days then just write a a batch file and schedule the system to do a reboot once a day... "c;\windows\system32\shutdown.exe /r" (put this in a batch file example: reboot.bat then create a scheduled event in the task scheduler.

This will do the job as well.

    Hi Kevin,

I seem to be experiencing the problems with my Acurite Internet Bridge 09150TRX. Hope you can help.

I have a TP-Link Router Model No Archer C2 AC750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router (http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/cat-9_Archer-C2.html) which the bridge is connected to.

Somehow the bridge does not detect the sensors which I have placed just next to the bridge.

However when I connect the bridge to another router TP-Link Router Model No. TL-MR3220 3G/4G Wireless N Router (http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/cat-4691_TL-MR3220.html), the bridge detects the sensors and works just fine.

Wanted to check with you if you know whether buying the TP-LINK - TL-SF1005D, 5-Port 10/100Mbps Desktop Switch ( http://www.lazada.sg/tp-link-tl-sf1005d-5-port-10100mbps-desktop-switch-3000168.html) and connecting it to the Gigabit Router will resolve the problem. Or what else can I do to resolve this issue

I dont want to spend money buying the desktop switch and find out that it does not resolve the problem.

Hope you are able to give some advice on this.

    Thanks.

    Hi Kevin,

Recently I have encountered a issue with your program. If using multiple sensors it will begin uploading data before it has all of the necessary data after restarting the program or computer. This has caused my station to report 0F multiple times to wunderground and CWOP. Is there a way you can make it so the program waits a minute or two before uploading data to ensure it has all of the data? I know the program does check but it does not seem to work well with multiple sensors.

Also, I do not think I have ever said thanks for all of the work that you do for this program. I and I am sure many others appreciate it. I left a small donation but I plan on donating more in the future. Again, thank you.

I have mine working in Windows 10 using the 32-bit version. The instructions are the same as any other Windows machine except I use a crossover cable and share my internet connection (more stable than a bridged connection in my opinion). Update your Windows Pcap to the latest version 4.1.3 (Windows 8). There are intermittent errors with "rtupdate.wunderground.com" but only a few per day and its not a fatal error. This may have to do with Windows Pcap not being fully compatible with Windows 10, though I'm not sure.

All forecast come directly from NOAA, and are embedded as per their guidelines. It continues to be a work in progress, and a lot of fun. I've been using the bridge with 5n1 for about a month with success. Have been trying to get your software up and running and not having luck. I read well and have gone over your docx and the process a few times. One possible issue is that four network adapters show up in your setup dialog box, and none of them is the one that I think I should be connecting with.

This software would really do the trick for me, but I am getting a Pcap error after a long wait. There are 3 pcap dll files in the folder. The Windows framework has been installed. The bridge works well. I swear, I'll contribute to your cause if I can get something going here. Thanks for all your hard work.

Hello Mark! Sorry you are having trouble implementing the software. I might be able to help you out. I have a few questions. 1. What version of Windows? 2. 32bit or 64bit? 3. Laptop, or Desktop? 4.How many physical network adapters? If laptop then usually 2 adapters at most. An Ethernet, and a Wireless is most common, but if on a desktop then 2 Ethernet is possible.

Also, when I check the laptop through Network Adapters setting, I see Qualcomm Atheros as the only one listed, but it is not available in Kevin's program "setup". So, I am not sure which one to choose, but I did the process with all the visible ones in "setup" multiple times. I don't know if this helps at all because I'm not able to determine which is for what as far as these adapter listings go.

    Thanks again for your help.

I would start by un-installing your winpcap. re-install it using this guide...

    http://www.hidownload.com/how-to-install-winpcap-on-windows-8.htm

ignore the hidownload install. I am just using their guide. No need to install their software.

OK Mark! Let's start out with the basics. When using a notebook computer we are going to be using your wireless adapter, and your LAN adapter(Ethernet). Your Ethernet port on your laptop should be connected to your AcuRite Bridge VIA an Ethernet cable (Cat5). Your Wifi Connection should be connected to your WiFi Router(Internet). Once this is done you need to Bridge the WiFi, and Ethernet connections...

    http://www.thewindowsclub.com/create-a-network-bridge-windows

At this point you should see a Microsoft Bridged Connection in Kevin's Program. You can choose the rpcap bridge, or the rpcap Lan connection. Ether one should work to capture packets. I use the LAN connection. If your laptop is a newer variety, and has no Ethernet port then you will need to get a USB2Ethernet Adapter.

Welp, this is embarrassing. I can't dedicate this laptop to a hard wired ethernet cable. I did not read very well and assumed I could do everything wireless with the bridge plugged into my wi-fi router. Sorry to waste your time. I did try the scraper, though, as it looked like it would do the trick. It scapes AcuLink OK, but it will not post to WU saying that either ID or password are wrong (they aren't). It appears I can do this without hanging my laptop onto another ethernet cable, or am I wrong about that as well? Acurite really has screwed the pooch by treating the 5 n 1 a single sensor array when reporting to WU. Really need to break it up as I have a new tower that gives me much more accurate readings for temp and hum.

Thanks for all your time. If there is anything that I am missing on the scraper, let me know. Thanks everyone, for your patience.

    Hi Kevin,

Hope all is well. I am just wondering if you have any updates about the bug fixes. I think I fixed it so my station does not send out 0F temperatures after restarting the program as often. The bug is still there though, it has to do with using temperatures from one sensor (5 in 1) and humidity from another (tower). However, the 100% humidity bug when reporting to CWOP is still giving me issues. My humidity readings typically run really low (normally does not get above 90%) but sometimes it does and that causes issues.

    Thank you for your help.

Kevin - appreciate the Bridge Reader program. If one has a router that does DNS resolving/forwarding where you can specify hostnames to IP, one can set www.acu-link.com as your Windows machine LAN address. The bridge will start sending data to Windows machine - then Bridge Reader can see it. No multiple network cards or interfaces needed, and no actual http server needs to be running on the Windows machine, though I would prefer this over capturing with winpcap. Perhaps Kevin you can add an option for a listener on port 80 instead of capturing all traffic. Thank you Kevin.

To clarify, while you don't need a full HTTP server, you do need to listen/accept connections on port 80 using the method described above. This can be done with ncat from nmap.org
    in CMD prompt: ncat -l 80 -k

    Cool program!
Anon - bridge wants to get success message or it will stop sending some data.
You can still do it - ncat -l 80 -k -c "echo success"

Looks like Acurite will be forcing firmware updates on exiting Aculink Bridges in the near future. The have updated the protocol. Rumor is it will alter the ability for third party products to sniff the readings from packet traffic. I have heard directly from a beta tester that the new configuration will support rapid fire 18 second updates to weather underground. Guess we will have to see? I hope there is still a way to read data from the new Bridge as I still would like the ability to use multiple sensors, and upload data to other sites.

Probably https? It's lame that Acurite uses your internet connection and just takes the data from sensors and bridge hardware you paid for, even if you don't register. I get nothing from the deal, so I don't even send the data to aculink. If this is their idea of making the bridge better, I'll switch back to capturing sensor data with SDR and report it to whomever I choose, with help from Kevin. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ACU RITE.

    Hi Jack,

Thanks for the heads-up. Any idea as to when the new firmware will be pushed out?

    Weatherguy,

Hard to say. I'll likely have to modify my apps in any case.

It looks like the firmware upgrade will require interaction, and be by invitation. So no worries about existing third party software failing without notice

    Hi all,

I just got the email from Acu-Rite asking whether to proceed with the firmware upgrade to the Acu-Link bridge. I told them to proceed. I should be getting the upgrade soon.

If you're using my apps - either the scraper or the one that intercepts the network packets from the bridge - the upgrade will break my apps until I modify the code. I will update the code for the bridge reader app first and the scraper later on.

Keep in mind that, if you just want to simply do rapid-fire updates to Weather Underground, the newest firmware should eliminate the need for my apps. If you want to post to CWOP, PWSWeather, and other weather services, you'll need to wait for me to update my apps.

Also, both of my apps work just fine running on Windows 10 - if you're debating whether to upgrade to Windows 10 just do it. I've been quite pleased with Windows 10.

Kevin, Good luck with the firmware update! I do rely on your software for the .csv file output to drive Weather Display, and my website. I also use multiple sensors. I use the 5in1 for everything but the Temp, and humidity. That comes from a solar shielded Tower sensor. I will be eagerly awaiting your update. As soon as I get my notice for my firmware update I will let you know, and be happy to help beta test the your apps if you would like. Thanks again for the great Apps!

Appreciate the updates Kevin - per a comment from ninchelser rapid fire is 36 seconds in current firmware so bridge reader is still needed. also its funny that acurite dont consider its users to be "sharing" data with them, they still just take it - I assume this isn't different in the new firmware? If you do implement a listener like anonymous said before, a rePOSTer to acurite for the users OPTION to SHARE.

Acurite is just "taking" your data?

    Say what?

What exactly are they doing with "your" data? Please explain and provide evidence.

As far as I can tell, your data isn't shared with anyone unless you specifically make it so.

Of course, Acurite needs your data so they can forward it to your mobile device or web page so you can access it.

LOL! It think this is in reference to the bridge not offering an option to keep data localized. Yes, by installing the bridge you are giving Acurite permission, and allowing them to "Take" your data. Looking forward to the update Kevin.

Well, I got my invitation from Acu-Rite to update my firmware on my Aculink Bridge. I am holding of for now as I use multiple sensors, and use the text file option for Weather Display. I know you are a busy man Kevin. Looking forward to your next software update. Thanks for the great software. It just sits, and churns out the weather data without fail.

Hi Jack (one shouldn't says those words on an airplane),

I plan on updating my software soon. I got my Acu-Link updated with the latest firmware a couple weeks or so ago, but my bridge crashed and I had to send it to Acu-Rite for repairs. It should be arriving on Tuesday and then I can start working on updating the code...

It seems like this is happening to several people. Do they know the reason yet? Wondering if I should just get a new bridge, and save my other for backup?

    Hi Jack and all,

I got my bridge back from Acu-Rite and it has the latest firmware. I was up really late last night reconfiguring my app to work with the new format. I've got it working for the most part, but have a few more bugs to resolve. I'll be making the new version available for download real soon.
